Although we like Apple's attractive, introductory Numbers spreadsheet application, for instance, Excel for Mac is more robust, handling a million rows of data. If I get some spare time, I’ll put the font cache back in place and see if it trashes things. I can’t open certain doc files that have been emailed to me. Not from just one person, this is a consistent problem. I have to go to my husband’s pc, download them, transfer them to a memory stick and move them over. I have tried to update to 12.2.1, it says it can’t find software, however when I check the version the computer thinks I have, it acknowledges an update install to the 12.2.1.
After recently finally updating my address book and everything seemed peachy, I got another update alert and clicked on it. And poof, my Entourage was once again gone, had to keep pressing the reset/relaunch button. Went to the Apple store today and after 2hrs the techy sells me a new Office Mac 2008 software, installs it and everything seems fine. I come home, start up the Mac and again the Entourage is not cooperating, getting a message to relaunch/rest. I still can’t get into my emails and at this point I’m hoping not to lose my address and all the 200 + name/info I have stored.

At work I spent 90% of my time on Excel 97 (Accounting & fin analysis), well, at home I simply hate Excel 2008 for Mac. It's very slow, cluttered, utterly unusable compared to the 97 edition on PC - Word: it's actually good. Seems very similar to the 97 Word version I'm using at work! It's fast and intuitive and the menus are where you expect them to be - Powerpoint: good enough for me, don't use at home anyway - Entourage: I don't use it. So, given the above, should I basically buy the new version (seems that I can't upgrade?!?) for the next Excel? The 2011 Excel seems completely different from the 2008. Thanks for reading.
Running Windows lets you play PC games that haven’t been ported to the Mac, or stay completely compatible with your documents from a PC-centric workplace. Windows 8.1, the current version of Microsoft’s operating system, will run you about $120 for a plain-jane version. Photo: Rob LeFebvre/Cult of Mac One of the selling points of a Mac these days is the ability to run Windows software on it, via or Apple’s own. You can run the next-gen OS from Microsoft (Windows 10) on your Mac using virtualization for free, however. Virtualization software like Parallels or VMWare Fusion (two of the best apps to run Windows software on your Mac without partitioning your hard drive for Boot Camp) isn’t free, though these applications do allow you to try before you buy.
